VCC Continuing Studies is seeking instructors with industry and teaching experience to teach in the Network Technology Administration and Security, Network Security, and IT Operations programs. Successful candidates will be offered a term contract position, with opportunities for renewal of instructional assignments.

This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students’ progress, and develops lesson plans/syllabi. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories, including, but not limited to, lab infrastructure. The position is also responsible for upholding the College policies and procedures, participating in meetings, events and on committees.

Preference will be given to applicants with skills and industry expertise in one or more of the following areas:

System Administration and IT Infrastructure Management
Computer Network Design, Architecture, and Security
Vulnerability Assessment
Penetration Testing
Cybersecurity
Cloud Computing
Operating Systems
Project Management

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Utilize industry knowledge to teach and engage students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, and independent or group projects.
  2. Develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, including audio-visual and web-related materials, where appropriate.
  3. Effectively communicate with students, in a group or individual setting, using both visual techniques and verbal communication.
  4. Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Evaluate students’ progress and provide detailed feedback on student performance.
  5. Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, laboratory work or hands-on training.
  6. Maintain effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
  7. Adhere to VCC policies and procedures, including being available to students, and maintaining confidentiality of students and information.
  8. Participate in departmental and college meetings and events, and consult with other college departments as needed.
  9. Creates a positive learning environment by consistently demonstrating preparedness for class, by motivating students to accomplish educational and personal goals and by providing the opportunity to receive and act on student feedback
  10. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in a related technical field
  • Minimum three years of current and relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary education environment is preferred
  • Relevant industry certifications are an asset (e.g. MCITP, CCNP, CCNA, CCNA, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+)
  • Experience teaching in an online environment is preferred
  • Ability to create an inclusive atmosphere while servicing a diverse student body
  • Evidence of commitment to team and personal professional growth
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma, an asset.
Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE
$60 – $85 per hour.
