As per the VCC Faculty Association collective agreement “The terms of appointment shall conform to 3-year cycles that end on June 30th. Appointments that commence at unusual times will be extended so as to conform to the term cycle as referenced above. The term will end after
the 3-year cycle, unless other appointed to a second 3-year cycle”.

Commencement date: July 1, 2023

This position works with Department Heads and the Associate Vice President, Academic Innovation to: 
 
- Provide leadership and coordination of curriculum and instruction; 
- Liaise between Divisions/Schools and other College Divisions/Schools, external organizations, institutions and businesses; and 
- Serve on College committees as required. 
 
The position of Instructional Associate is a Faculty position and therefore covered by the Collective Agreement between the College and the Vancouver Community College Faculty Association. An Instructional Associate is responsible to the Associate Vice President, Academic Innovation.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
The specific responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a complete and definitive listing. An Instructional Associate is expected to assume these and other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the Associate Vice President, Academic Innovation. 
 
The main duties and responsibilities of the Instructional Associate include: 
 
- program, curriculum and instructional development; 
- program review and renewal; 
- planning and development of long and short term educational goals for the Divisions/Schools; 
- responsibilities as set out in the Collective Agreement for Instructional Associates. 
 
Examples of specific responsibilities: 
 
1. Facilitating curriculum development for new and existing programs or courses in the College; 
2. Supporting departments through educational governance process and procedures; 
3. Facilitating program review and renewal for programs across the College; 
4. Chairing the Selection Committees for faculty and department leaders; 
5. Developing professional development opportunities for faculty through workshops and events; 
6. Organizing and supporting program review process in accordance with College Policy as amended from time to time; 
7. Supporting Department Leaders by mentoring, coaching and maintaining community of practice; 
8. Organizing and delivering faculty orientation workshops; 
9. Conducting research projects on the scholarship of teaching and learning; 
10. Serving on college committees; 
11. Maintaining relationships with and being active in the teaching and learning community; 
12. Leading and organizing special projects as required.
Area Hiring Criteria
Education and Experience 
- Baccalaureate level, Masters level preferred, or equivalent trades or technical qualifications. 
- Completion of instructor or teacher training to the minimum level required of instructors. 
- Two (2) years or more instructional experience in adult education. 
- Previous Department Leader experience preferred. 
 
Skills and Knowledge 
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills. 
- Excellent project management skills. 
- Demonstrated research skills. 
- Demonstrated ability to prepare educational and curriculum documents and proposals. 
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
- Sound knowledge of teaching and learning theories and principles. 
- Able to articulate a teaching philosophy.
Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE In accordance with the VCCFA Collective Agreement
