This position is responsible for providing program and entrance information to potential Community and Career Education (CACE) students. Assists in the application and registration process, conducts assessments and plans and implements tours of CACE programs and courses.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Provides program and entrance information to potential applicants. Assists in the application and registration process as applicable for CACE students and coordinates this process with the Registrar’s Office as necessary.
2. Screens requests by students and applicants for interviews with CACE faculty.
3. Coordinates the compilation of all student application material related to entrance requirements and determines appropriate placement.
4. Maintains and circulates application material for perusal by CACE faculty.
5. Maintains database of waitlisted students noting when they applied, what programs/courses they applied for and the outcomes of assessments/interviews.
6. Conducts assessments as necessary.
7. Liaises with schools and organizations to plan and implements tours of CACE programs and courses.
8. Represents the department at post-secondary Transition Fairs and conducts public information sessions at educational forms.
9. Attends department meetings as required.
10. Develops and maintains efficient office procedures.
11. Provides general clerical support, picks up mail, organizes annual mail out to schools, community groups, etc., and maintains resource material.
12. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology or Social Work and 3 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, the public and a variety of external contacts.
  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle potentially difficult situations calmly and with tact and diplomacy.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive tasks at any given time.
  • Considerable knowledge of the various criteria used in determining suitability for admission to specialized programming for students with a disability.
  • Considerable knowledge of the various sponsorships, financial aid programs and other forms of assistance available to students.
  • Ability to conduct standardized reading and numeracy tests to ascertain appropriate level of instruction (e.g. Canadian Adult Achievement Test – CAAT).
  • Ability to review and assess student applications and to process admission in accordance with established criteria and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Computer experience and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Access and Windows.
  • Effective oral, written English communication skills.
  • Ability to compose letters and memoranda including those of a non-routine nature.
  • Knowledge of community resources to provide information regarding alternative training options to unsuccessful applicants.
  • Previous experience in working with Adult Special Education (ASE) students and the ability to respond to a wide range of inquiries and concerns.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of vocational training as it relates to ASE students.
Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE
PAYGRADE 24 – $28.76 to $33.72 hourly, plus payment in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays.
